ADJUNCT PROFESSOR - AUSTIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE: 2006 - PRESENT
- courses taught: Counseling Theories, Drug and Alcohol Addiction, Family Interventions, Prevention, Psychology of Personal Adjustment, Ethics and more
- review and discuss counseling theories and methods used in drug and alcohol treatment
- instruct and familiarize the student with cognitive-behavioral methods, brief therapy, and motivational interviewing
- train the student in case management work and the importance of “stages of change”
- support, train, and document work of practicum students according to the “addiction counseling competencies” (KSA)
- create lesson plans andstimulate class discussions around current evidence-based practices
- prepare and present lectures to students on addiction and prevention counseling
- research and compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments
