Participate in the tenure track process by active engagement in scholarly activities that support professional development and by providing service to college and external community.

NUR 3580 Management Issues in Nursing (Traditional Classroom and Online)
This course is designed to acquaint the nurse with basic nursing management knowledge and skills. The student will examine the effects of ethics, laws, politics, power, communication, groups/teams, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, confrontation and negotiation on the role of nurse manager. Students will apply managerial knowledge and skills to managing themselves and others effectively within the context of the changing profession and health care delivery environment. Case management will be addressed.
NUR 4300 Leadership (Online)
This course fosters an understanding of leadership behaviors exhibited in the process of influencing individuals, groups and communities. Emphasis is placed on leadership knowledge and skills to enable change for the nursing profession in a dynamic health care environment.
NUR 4850 Senior Experience (Traditional Classroom and Precepted Clinical)
This course operationalizes concepts, theories and processes synthesized in the program. The student identifies a health problem of a self-selected client population and studies nursing intervention strategies. The student works with a preceptor to achieve instructor approved behavioral objectives and meets one on one with faculty member during the semester. The student spends thirty (30) hours in seminar and ninety (90) hours in a clinical setting with a preceptor.
NURA 3910 Child Family Health Nursing (Traditional Classroom, Lab and Clinical Supervision)
This course incorporates theoretical and clinical experiences. The course will provide knowledge of both the art and science of effective and appropriate care for children and their families. Focus will be on health promotion, pathophysiology common to children, appropriate health teaching and knowledge of how all of the above are utilized in an age appropriate manner. The clinical portion of this class will emphasize the application of the nursing process to appropriate planning and delivery of nursing care for patients with various disease processes and developmental stages.
Front Range Community College, Westminster, Colorado August 1999- August 2007

Responsible for all aspects of administration, supervision, evaluation and coordination of the Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Programs with an enrollment of 175-230 students. Responsibilities included faculty recruitment, supervision and evaluation of nine (9) full-time nursing faculty and one (1) full-time program advisor/administrator and all adjunct faculty. Other duties include, but are not limited to curriculum development, acquiring clinical placements, schedule planning, student recruitment, record keeping, formulation of policy and procedure, evaluation of program effectiveness, and budget over-site. Served as liaison to all departments in the college, other nursing programs in the state and Colorado Board of Nursing. Represented FRCC on the director task force to develop common curriculum for all community college nursing programs.
Full-time Nursing Faculty, Front Range Community College, Westminster, Colorado, August 1999 – June 2003
Responsibilities included planning, teaching and evaluating theory, clinical and laboratory instruction for multiple courses on both Practical and Associate levels. Participated in nursing department committees as well as college activities.

Fundaments of Nursing
Introduces theories and skills basic to the role of the nurse as provider of care, manager of care and member of the nursing profession. Emphasis is placed on introduction to critical thinking and the nursing process. Students will demonstrate a beginning level of competence in providing therapeutic nursing care for clients with common health alterations across the health continuum.
Nursing Care of Children
Introduces the role of the nurse in meeting the individual needs of the child from infancy through adolescence in health and illness. Beginning assessment and use of the nursing process, basic growth and development, pathophysiology, nutrition, and relevant emotional, cultural and family concepts are integrated throughout.
Nursing Care of Clients with Complex OB and Pediatric Issues
Prepares the professional nurse to comprehend and apply advanced concepts in care of the high-risk child bearing family and for children with complex health problems from birth through adolescence. Emphasizes special needs and complications during the perinatal experience and altered functioning, special needs, and disease processes manifested in children. The nursing process is used as a framework to attain optimal levels of maternal-newborn and pediatric health and wellness. Legal and ethical accountability are integrated throughout the course. Critical thinking skills are utilized throughout.
Advanced Concepts in Medical-Surgical Nursing I (Clinical Component)
Focuses on the role of the registered professional nurse as care provider, teacher, manager, professional, and advocate in meeting the nursing needs of adults across the life span. Utilizing the nursing process, the student is expected to integrate previous learning to assist the patient and family in achieving optimal functioning in various health care settings.
Advanced Concepts in Medical-Surgical Nursing II (Preceptored Clinical)
Continues to focus on the role of the registered professional nurse as care provider, teacher, manager, professional, and advocate in meeting the complex medical and surgical health care needs of adult clients. Utilizing the nursing process, the student is expected to integrate previous learning to assist the patient and family in achieving optimal functioning in various complex health care situations and settings.
Leadership in Professional Nursing
Socializes the student into the graduate registered nurse role. The focus is on the exploration and analysis of contemporary nursing practice, current trends and issues impacting nursing care delivery. Advanced leadership and management concepts are discussed as part of the nursing role.
Role Transition: AD student to Graduate Nurse (Traditional Classroom and Preceptored Clinical)
This course focuses on the nursing student adapting to the role and responsibilities of the graduate nurse as a registered nurse. Theory includes resume writing, interviewing, employment opportunities, delegation versus assigning, group decision making, Colorado Nurse Practice Act, current issues in professional nursing. This is a capstone course which involves research, writing, presenting and clinical practice.
