Teaching Experience
I started welding in 1974 in Houston as a structural steel welder, then after 3 years I went on to pipe and pressure vessel welding. I was lucky enough to stumble into a purge welding shop; I learned to weld tantalum, titanium, and zirconium.
I have worked at the Applied Research Laboratories at the University of Texas for the past 30 years. I work closely with engineers and engineering students. I help to design assemblies to be used by the Navy, Army, and other military units. I help educate students and engineers on proper welding designs, the use of welding symbols, and choosing fabrication materials. I have experience with a lot of different metals: aluminum, stainless steel, monel, titanium, and tantalum. I have trained welders to certify in GTAW pipe. My specialty is chamber welding; I have set up several shops and taught welders to chamber weld titanium. I am an AWS Certified Welding Inspector, AWS Certified Welding Instructor, and earned the Welding Technology Art Metals associate degree from Austin Community College. Just recently retired form ARL-UT and started my own business doing CWI work and training.
