Bruce Douglas
Teaching Experience
. Dr. Douglas has been active in the area of teaching for many years. He has worked with many of the country’s leading voice pedagogues, notably Richard Miller, William Neill, Joan Wall, and Ann Baltz. He has been Assistant Professor of Music, teaching Class and Applied Voice, at Texas Lutheran University, and is currently Adjunct Professor of Music at Austin Community College, teaching Music Fundamentals, American Music, Music Literature and Appreciation as well as Class and Applied Voice. In addition, he maintains an active private voice studio and is a long-time member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
He has a life-long interest in Music History and Musicology, and has consulted extensively with Dr. Andrew Dell"Antonio of The University of Texas, and co-author of our textbook, on effective teaching of this material.
Professional Publications
Based in Austin since 1980, Dr. Douglas has been an active performer in all areas of classical singing, performing both leading and supporting operatic roles with such groups as the Austin Gilbert and Sullivan Society, the Opera Ensemble of Austin, Southwest Opera, and Opera Unlimited in Albuquerque, NM. In the professional choral field he has sung with both Conspirare and the Texas Chamber Consort, with whom he was tenor soloist in Mozart’s Requiem. He has also performed the role of the Evangelist in Bach’s St. John Passion, as well as numerous other oratorio solos. He was tenor soloist at St. David’s Episcopal Church for nine years. A post-graduate student of noted French baritone Gérard Souzay, Dr. Douglas is an especially committed recitalist, having performed numerous solo recitals in the last few years
