Introduction to the technique of storyboarding including organizing a project’s content and arranging it in a visual format. Emphasis will be on proper terminology, concepts of narrative flow, staging, and use of industry standard software.

 

Course Rationale

To prepare students for advanced courses that require basic pre-visualization skills. To fulfill requirements for the Associates Degree in GDAMG. To provide students an opportunity to obtain critical thinking skills through visual problem solving, and to provide practicing professionals a way to upgrade their job skills.

Course Prerequisite

None, although basic computer skills are needed.

· Adobe Creative Suite

· Paper, pencils, eraser (to sketch out ideas)

· USB flash drive or external hard drive (to back up work)

Course Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to

  • Relate the fundamentals of the storyboarding process and design techniques both visually and verbally.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with content analysis.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with basic art tools including pencil, pen and ink, and markers.
  • Create conceptual art ranging from thumbnails to rough comps to client presentation art.
  • Explain concepts and techniques for proper information delivery and narrative flow.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with storyboarding software

 

Program-Level Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the 2D Animation program, students will be able to:

  • Define and apply design principles and theories to animation production
  • Identify and apply the 12 principles of animation
  • Demonstrate skills in the use of industry standard tools for animation
  • Create traditional and computer-generated animation based on current industry trends and practices
