Getting Started
  • Getting Started

    1. Set a timer for one hour to read the Syllabus (including links), Schedule (see link below), and Blackboard (Bb) content.

    2. In Bb, select the Beginning section on the left. View the Orientation Video

    3. In Bb, select the Beginning section on the left. Complete the Orientation Exam

    4. Begin work on the first assignment.

    5. Maintain a daily commitment to studying and coding.

    Blackboard (Bb) course access 1st week of class:

    Students must access the course in Bb during the 1st week of class to be counted as "Attending".  If a student does not access the course in Bb during the 1st week of class s/he will be classified as "Never Attended" and will be ineligible for financial aid and automatically dropped from the course.

  • Course Rationale

    Course Rationale: 

    This course is an introduction to scripting languages and Python. The purpose of the course is to prepare students for building scripts that control a sequence of program steps such as those used in developing testing and deploying software. A modern scripting language, Python, is used as an example of a scripting language.

    OER (Open Educational Resources) are used in this course and are listed in the Blackboard classroom.

    Purchase of a textbook is not required.

    PyCharm Community is the recommended IDE for this course. It is the industry standard.

  • Attendance/Participation

    Active participation in the class is required and is demonstrated by submitting correct assignments on time per the course schedule.


  • Withdrawals

    Withdrawal: It is the student’s responsibility to withdraw from the course if s/he elects that option. However, the professor may initiate a withdrawal if a student becomes more than two assignments behind the course schedule. If you become two assignments behind in the course, you should send an email to your professor stating your desire to remain in the course and describing a plan to resume progress.


  • Missed Exams & Late Work

    Important:
    Late submissions are NOT allowed. Replacement Programs are the only exception as described below.

    Late Submissions Late submissions are NOT allowed.
    Replacement Programs Available There are two Replacement Programs (1 and/or 2).
    What They Replace The Replacement Programs (1 and/or 2) may be submitted to replace a Program 01–14 assignment. Simply resubmit the program being replaced.
    When to Use A Replacement Program may be used to REPLACE any earlier assignment for which full credit was not earned. Simply resubmit the program being replaced.
    Requirements Follow the requirements and instructions for the assignment being replaced. Simply resubmit the program being replaced.
    Where to Submit Submit the previously missed (or lower grade) assignment at one of the Replacement Program links. Simply resubmit the program being replaced.
    Blackboard Comment Requirement Identify the assignment being submitted in the Blackboard comments.

    Penalty: –10% if the assignment is not identified in the Blackboard comments.
    Due Date Replacement Programs are due the last day of the course at 11:59 PM CT.

  • Incompletes

    Incomplete: An Incomplete may not be used as a shelter from a potentially low grade. A student who qualifies for an incomplete may request an “I” (Incomplete) at the end of the semester only if ALL of the following conditions are satisfied:

    1. The student is unable to complete the course during the semester due to documented extenuating circumstances.

    2. The student must have completed at least half the course and earned a grade “C” or higher.

    3. To remove an “I”, the student must complete the course two weeks before the end of the following semester or usually much sooner based on direction of the professor.
