Course Requirements

Prerequisites

Recommended: IBUS 1305 Introduction to International Business and Trade

 

Required Computer & Digital Literacy Skills

  • Comfort using Blackboard, sending email with attachments, uploading &downloading documents and installing software.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Using online libraries and databases to locate and gather appropriate information.
  • Using online search tools for specific academic purposes, including the ability to use search criteria, keywords, and filters.
  • Properly citing information sources.
  • Preparing a presentation of research findings.

Required Materials

This is an OER (Open Educational Resource)/ZTC (Zero Textbook Cost) Course.

It is suggested that readings/videos assigned are completed EARLY during the week so that you have time to reflect and complete EoM (End of Module) activities

Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

General:

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

1) utilize a broad array of cross-cultural knowledge necessary for supervision of multicultural personnel in the United States or abroad; and

2) interpret cross-cultural communications cues through case study analysis and other problem solving situations

Specific:

1. Define culture and how it applies to international cultural issues

2. Review the concepts and issues surrounding international culture and business management

3. Develop awareness of the student’s own culture as a starting point for understanding other cultures

4. Practice skills that will increase the student’s ability to integrate with, live within, and enjoy a foreign culture

5. Research a foreign culture via case studies of Canada, México, and Costa Rica

6. Write a Country Analysis project that applies the knowledge and skills from this course
