Course Requirements

External Hard Drive:

You will also be required to have an external hard drive for editing and storing all of your audiovisual projects. This drive must have either a Thunderbolt or USB 3/C connection and a minimum of 1TB of Hard drive space. You may not use an SD Card or thumb drive as your editing drive. 

Here are some examples of suitable hard drives:

SSD’s (Higher Quality Drives for 2k-4k video editing)

HDD’S (Hard Disk Drives - More Affordable but Slower)

 

The computers that we will be using have both USB Type A ports, USB-C ports, as well as Thunderbolt ports.

  • COMM 1335 (Intro to Radio-Television-Film)

Readings

Textbook:
There is no required textbook to purchase for this course. All required readings and materials will be provided by the instructor via Google Classroom and/or email.


Course Subjects

Course Description

This course introduces management principles and organizational structures within media industries, including production companies, broadcast stations, and digital media organizations. Students will explore how media is created, managed, organized, distributed, and maintained in professional environments.

Course Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  • Describe the functions of different professional media production companies and facilities
  • Apply course concepts to topics of personal or professional interest
  • Recognize organizational structures of both for‑profit and non‑profit media organizations
  • Demonstrate professional digital media organization and management practices
  • Create a professional standard website/portfolio for audiovisual work as well as a Resume & CV 

 

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the structures, objectives, and organizational models of media organizations
  • Apply management concepts to real-world media environments
  • Professionally organize, manage, and maintain their own digital media using external hard drives and storage systems
  • Develop workflows that reflect industry standards for media management
  • **Gain awareness of career paths and job opportunities in audiovisual industries through interaction
