Course Rationale

Students will develop a deeper understanding of live sound reinforcement. Including Signal flow, equipment familiarity, acoustics, and electronics, even stage lighting, with an emphasis on developing the knowledge and skills to establish a career in live sound.

 


Course Subjects

An overview and use of the components and theories of live sound reinforcement. Students will explore analog and digital audio electronics principles, signal flow, mic identification and placement techniques, console identification and theory, cabling types and management, and an overview of signal processing and mixing techniques as applied to live sound settings.


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

            Students will use their acquired knowledge of signal flow, basic acoustics, lighting and processing concepts to successfully engineer a sound reinforcement system at front of house and monitor positions, operate stage lights, record multitrack audio, and create a mix for broadcast in a live setting.

 

Students will have 6 weeks to prepare and plan for shifts at the Flex Factory (room 1420), 10:40am-3:20pm for 6 Fridays. Each Flex Factory student’s shifts will rotate the roll of A1 (FOH), A2 (MON), Recording, Broadcast and Lighting Engineer.
