Course Requirements
7 Major Course Requirements:
1. Orientation: (5%) 100-points - Student Introduction (Bio), Syllabus Quiz, & Connect and Zoom Videos.
2. SmartBook: (13%) 100-points - Chapters 1-13 (13 total).
3. Interactives: (21%) 100-points - Even-Numbered Chapters (6 total).
4. Exams: (21%) 100-points - Odd-Numbered Chapters Multiple Choice - Open Book (7 total).
5. The Formal Analysis Assignment (Part A): (20%) 100-points.
6. The Formal Analysis Student Response Assignment (Part B): (10%) 100-points.
7. The Photography Project: (10%) 100-points.
*Students are required to read Chapters 1-13 in the textbook (eBook) Living with Art, 13th Edition - these chapters should be read in their entirety and studied for assignments and exams.
*All Assignments must be submitted through Blackboard Ultra.

COMMON COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Apply art terminology as it specifically relates to works of art.
- Demonstrate knowledge of art elements and principles of design.
- Differentiate between the processes and materials used in the production of various works of art.
- Critically interpret, evaluate, and contextualize works of art.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of arts on culture.
DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Write meaningful formal and critical analyses of art works.
- Explain how formal and compositional properties express and convey content.
- Recognize and identify differences in styles and art forms.
- Analyze how art reflects diverse perspective.

OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES ESTABLISHED BY THE INSTRUCTOR:
- The understanding of Art and its role in civilization will be promoted by expanding the students' knowledge and awareness of the Formal Elements (Visual Elements) and the Principles of Design - how they are used, and to what ends.
- Students will be able to analyze Works of Art based on the various ways individual artists organize the Formal Elements in unique ways within their Works of Art, to give meaning to their own lives, as well as to the lives of those who experience their Works of Art.
- Students will be able to analyze and explain the context and meaning of a Work of Art from both cultural and historical standpoints.
- Students are also afforded the opportunity to establish continuity between their personal aesthetic experiences and the normal process of living.
- Careful examination and study will enhance the Students' perceptions of Works of Art throughout history, as well as those works created within our own time.

READING REQUIREMENTS:
Students are required to read the Syllabus, the Assignment Due Dates Document, the Blackboard Announcements, and all Supporting Documents, Study Aids, Tutorials, Study Materials, and the Instructions for each Assignment. Also, Students are required to read Chapters 1-13 in the textbook (eBook) and in the SmartBook (McGraw-Hill Connect Access) entitled, Living with Art, 13th Edition, by Mark Getlein.
