Course Requirements

Catalog Description

Learn techniques and methods used for graphic design for various digital interfaces. Emphasis will be placed on aesthetics, information design, interface patterns, color, typography, multi-viewport design, and UI design tools.

Course Prerequisites

GRPH 1359 and UXUI 1373

Course Rationale/Objectives

This course focuses on visual problem solving for screen-based media. Students will discover how design principles apply to digital interfaces within the context of established best practices in visual design and user interface design. Skills and techniques covered include: accessibility, wireframing, typography, user flow, interactivity, design patterns, design systems, multi-step processes, discovery, ideation, and prototyping. 

 


Readings

There is no required textbook for this course. Suggested readings may be shared throughout the semester.

  • Module 1: Software – Manipulate tools used for interface design
  • Module 2: Principles of design on screens – Assess how design principles influence the effectiveness of screen-based designs
  • Module 3: Wireframing and Planning – Plan the structure and layout of a digital interface
  • Module 4: Responsive Design – Create a responsive design
  • Module 5: Design system – Design a microsite using a design system
