Course Requirements
Course Description: Advanced study of the UNIX operating system. Includes advanced concepts of system management and communication, the installation and maintenance of software, network security, and data integrity issues.
Pre-requisite: ITSC 1307 or departmental approval.
Course Rationale: This course is designed to introduce students to the skills needed to install, update, manage and administer a UNIX operating system using Linux as the model.
Instructional Methodology: This course will have 30% lecture and 70% laboratory.
The CIS open labs are available for students for work outside of scheduled lab time.
Grade Policy:
Grade will be assigned based both on concepts and practical application.
90% - 100% A
80% - 89% B
70% - 79% C
60% - 69% D
0% - 59% F
Course Requirements
There are 3 exams and Activities that represent the total grade. Exams scheduled priory to the due receive full credit.
Exam past due date or retakes are also available however the total credit will be maximized at 80% credit.

Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives
Course Objectives / Learning Outcomes:
- Analyze system and administrative information about UNIX using Linux.
- Apply commonly used skills and commands, vocabulary, operation and utilities required for the systems management and administration of a UNIX system, using Linux Investigate emerging technology in shaping new processes, strategies and business models.
- Install, configure and maintain Linux Server.
- Design, install and maintain Windows client and Linux client with the LINUX Server
- Translate and develop command line instruction, the file system, shells, shell scripts, networking, Protocols, Utilities, Printing, system backup and restores.
- Develop & maintain DHCP, BIND, Masquerading, SAMBA, Apache, NIS & MAIL
