Course Components

The grade for this course will be based on participation, reflection assignments, quizzes, and the RC/CS functional areas (4-7).

Grading Breakdown (200 Points Total)

  • Participation (30%): 60 points
  • Two Reflection Assignments: 20 points (10 points each)
  • Two Quizzes: 40 points (20 points each)
  • Portfolio Components: 80 points

Course Subjects

This course focuses on understanding physical and intellectual development in children, particularly from birth to age five. Through lectures, hands-on activities, and discussions, participants will learn about child development theories, creating supportive environments, and engaging families.


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of CDEC 2324, the student will:

1. Competency Area IV: Understanding Families

  • Develop strategies to establish positive and productive relationships with families.
  • Demonstrate effective communication techniques for engaging families in their child’s development and learning process.
  • Create culturally and linguistically responsive practices that respect family diversity and values.
  • Design activities and resources to encourage family participation in early childhood programs.

 

    1. Competency Area V: Program Management
  • Identify essential elements of effective program management in early childhood settings, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills to maintain accurate records related to children, families, and program operations.
  • Analyze strategies to ensure compliance with regulations and standards in early childhood programs.
  • Evaluate the role of reflective practice and professional growth in managing a successful program.

 

    1. Competency Area VI: Professionalism
  • Exhibit a professional attitude and ethical behavior aligned with the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of advocacy in the field of early childhood education.
