Course Requirements

Course Prerequisites: To enroll in Writing 2 (ESOL 0372), students must have completed Writing

1 (ESOL 0371) and Grammar 1 (ESOL 0395) with a grade of C or higher or tested into

Writing 2 (ESOL 0372) and Grammar 2 (ESOL 0396) on the ESOL Assessment test.

Selected materials from professor. Most readings will be related to topics of interest which students can use for their writing.

Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

  • -Recognize differences in the organization of paragraphs and essays.
  • -Write a clear, well-organized, cause and effect paragraph and a multi-paragraph essay using a logical sequence in a prescribed rhetorical mode, i.e. classification, reason/argument (for example, advantages/disadvantages), process (how-to, including use of the imperative form), description.
  • -Demonstrate ability to use the writing process by generating ideas, drafting, revising, and editing.
  • -Demonstrate functional vocabulary knowledge in a variety of contexts at a level appropriate for pre-college level courses.
  • -Write coherent and cohesive sentences of three types: simple (affirmative, negative, and interrogative), compound, and complex.
  • -Incorporate the use of appropriate transitions.

-Recognize and use proper English mechanics, writing minimal run-on sentences, comma splices, and fragments.
