Course grading is determined by points.  Points are assigned for each portion of the component coursework.  Please review the following for the breakdown of your coursework points.                                     Graded Items Qty Points Each

Top 200 Drugs Review Assignments       6  of them ,  20 points each, 12% of grade-Points 120

Exams                                                     *Highest 2 grades of the 4 exams will be counted for course exam grades 4 of them  180 points each, 36% of grade Points 360

Total Points / Percentage: 1000 / 100%

Minimum Required Points: 750

The “Minimum Required Points” are the minimum points that are required to achieve the passing score of 75%.  A minimum passing grade of 75% is required to receive a passing grade for the course.

Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

End of Course Outcomes Illustrate major principles of the following domain of PTCE: Pharmacology for Technicians, Pharmacy Law and Regulations, Sterile and Non-sterile Compounding, Medication Safety, Quality Assurance, Medication Order Entry and Fill Process, Inventory Management, Billing and Reimbursement, and Information Systems Usage and Application. Course Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, the student will demonstrate ability to:  

1. Identify the domains on the pharmacy technician certification exam. 

2. Identify ways to prepare for the pharmacy technician certification exam. 

3. Discuss the brand and generic names of drugs, as well as their classification, primary use, common side effects, drug-drug and drug-food interactions, as well as black box warnings. 

4. Calculate pharmacy calculations in a variety of settings. 

5. Recall and apply federal pharmacy laws and regulations in case studies.  

6. Identify principles of non-sterile compounding, and common situations that necessitate nonsterile compounding. 

7. Identify principles of sterile compounding, and common situations that necessitate sterile compounding.

8. Discuss strategies for avoiding medication errors and other methods related to safe pharmacy practice. 

9. Discuss quality assurance principles as it relates to pharmacy practice. 

10. Identify the steps in the medication order entry and fill process and discuss the ways that pharmacy technicians interact with patients, customers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals. 

11. Apply inventory management principles essential in pharmacy practice. 

12. Identify common pharmacy abbreviations and acronyms. 

13. Identify common controlled substances
