Course Requirements
Clinical Course Requirements: 1. Successful completion of a Skills Laboratory Mastery by demonstrating competence of selected nursing skills, including a dosage calculation exam. For more information refer to skills mastery form in Focus 1 Orientation, Student Handbook for guidelines on Skill Competency demonstration and following website: http://sites.austincc.edu/health/rnsg/studentresources/checklists/ 2. Prior to the first day of clinical and in effect throughout the semester: a. CPR certification b. Immunizations c. Hospital specific requirements (HIPAA, Environment of Care, etc.) 3. Go to the Level 4 RRC Bulletin Board- webpage at https://sites.austincc.edu/health/rnsg/level4/rnsg2432rrc 4. Students must demonstrate continued proficiency in dosage calculations by passing a dosage calculations quiz with a minimum score of 90% in each clinical course prior to medication administration. Students will have three (3) opportunities to demonstrate proficiency. 5. Actively participate in all clinical activities as scheduled. 6. All students must have a lab pack. 7. Come prepared for clinical experience. If you are not prepared, cannot assess/plan your nursing care, or cannot safely perform skills taught to date, you will not be allowed to care for the patient and may be sent home from clinical. A conference will occur and possible referral to the learning laboratory or other activity may be required. 8. Perform nursing care in a safe manner. Refer to Definition of Unsafe Practice in Evaluation Tool. 9. Be able to care for a minimum of three patients in a safe, effective, organized, and timely manner by the end of the clinical rotation. RNSG 2362 Revised 01/15/2026 5 10. Check all medications with your instructor or designated Clinical Faculty Assistant (CFA) prior to administration. 11. Complete all written assignments and submit at the time designated by the faculty. Please note: Students that are in the Preceptor Clinical Program (SNIP) may have different requirements for written assignments. 12. Present a Case study. Please note: Students that are in the Preceptor Clinical Program (SNIP) may have different requirements for written assignments. 13. Any student who engages in any form of cheating/scholastic dishonesty will be subject to dismissal from the program. 14. Comply with Health and Safety Information found in the Associate Degree Nursing Program Student Handbook. 15. It is the students’ responsibility to contact the office of Student Accessibility Services for any accommodations and present accommodations letter to faculty on the first day of class.

Course Subjects
Course Description (3-0-12) Application of the theories, concepts and knowledge base presented in RNSG 2432: Adult Health IV at specific clinical sites. 3 credit hours Classroom contact hours-0 Laboratory contact hours-0 Clinical contact hours -192 This course focuses on enhanced concepts and skills for developing professional competencies in complicated nursing care situations involving adult patients and families with multiple body system problems. It continues with development of the professional nurse as a provider of care, patient safety advocate, member of health care team, and member of the profession in complicated nursing care situations. Emphasis is on critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and determining legal/ethical values for optimization of patient care in intermediate and acute care settings. Transferability of workforce courses varies. Students interested in transferring courses to another college should speak with their Area of Study (AoS) advisor, Department Chair, and/or Program Director.
Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives
Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course the student will be able to meet the following clinical objectives: Patient Safety Advocate EOPSLO #1. Adheres to the safety requirements and practice setting standards and complies with mandatory reporting requirements as set forth by the Texas Nursing Practice Act, Texas Board of Nursing Rules and other governing and accrediting agencies. EOPSLO #2. Implements & evaluates measures to promote quality and a safe environment for all individuals, and seeks guidance when performing tasks when appropriate or necessary. Provider of Patient Care EOPSLO #3. Integrates clinical reasoning skills and the nursing process, guided by evidencebased practice, as a framework for providing care for multiple individuals, and their families, with complex health care needs involving multiple body systems; in collaboration with members of the health care team. EOPSLO #4. Develops, implements and evaluates teaching plans for individuals and their families to address disease prevention, health promotion, maintenance and restoration. EOPSLO #5. Accesses and manages electronic information and material resources in providing care for individuals and their families. Member of the Health Care Team EOPSLO #6. Utilizes nursing resources to identify and refer individuals with complex health care needs to resources that facilitate continuity of care; health promotion, maintenance and restoration.
