A mental health-related onsite work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply the theory, skills and concepts presented in RNSG 2213 Mental Health Nursing. RNSG 2160 uses onsite clinical with the focus on the National Patient Safety Goals and the DEC competencies

Upon completion of the course the student will be able to meet the following clinical objectives:

 

Patient Safety Advocate

EOPSLO #1.  Adheres to the safety requirements and practice setting standards and complies with mandatory reporting requirements as set forth by the Texas Nursing Practice Act, Texas Board of Nursing Rules and other governing and accrediting agencies.

 

EOPSLO #2.  Implements & evaluates measures to promote quality and a safe environment for all individuals, and seeks guidance when performing tasks when appropriate or necessary.

 

Provider of Patient-Centered Care

EOPSLO #3.  Applies clinical reasoning skills and the nursing process, guided by evidence-based practice, as a framework for providing care for individuals with mental health care needs, in collaboration with members of the health care team.

 

EOPSLO #4.  Develops and implements teaching plans for individuals to address disease prevention and health promotion, maintenance and restoration.

 

EOPSLO #5.  Accesses and uses electronic information, and material resources in providing care for individuals and their families.

EOPSLO #8.  Identifies and analyzes the delegation process, implemented by the charge/staff nurse, in an effort to promote safe, effective and timely care for individuals with psychiatric mental health needs.
