Course Requirements

Basic computer skills utilizing internet, word processing, and spreadsheet (Excel) software are recommended for all accounting courses. If you have any questions, consult with an accounting advisor. Degree seeking students are required to have a minimum score on the reading and math portions of the TSI test. Certificate students must meet the Level 1 requirements. There are several exemptions and waivers to these requirements. Please consult the course schedule, assessment website, catalog, and/or contact an advisor to confirm your prerequisite status.

 


Readings

Accounting, Custom with Access to Cengage Now, 29th ed, Warren/Jones; this is a First Day Access course where your materials will be available via Blackboard Ultra.

 


Course Subjects

This course is a study in analyzing, classifying, and recording business transactions in a manual and computerized environment. The course emphasizes the complete accounting cycle, preparation of basic financial statements, recording merchandising transactions, reviewing inventory costing methods, preparing bank reconciliations, and recording long-term assets

 


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

1. Prepare a multiple-step income statement, classified balance sheet and statement of earnings.

2. Analyze and record the effects of common business transactions.

3. Prepare adjusting entries.

4. Describe the role of closing entries.

5. Apply elements of the conceptual framework to accounting issues.

6. Explain the components of the statement of cash flows.

7. Understand the relationship between financial components.
