Course Requirements

Capstone Experience
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
This semester you will have four opportunities to achieve certifications as an all position plate
and pipe welder. The tests will be conducted by an AWS CWI, and are intended to provide you
with the realistic experience of taking a weld test for employment. Testing days will be held on
four Fridays during each semester. The testing dates are posted throughout the welding labs, at
the tool crib windows, and on the welding department website.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (the state agency which regulates our
curriculum) has approved this course as the Capstone Experience for our Code Welding AAS in

Welding Technology and our Pipe Welding Certificate. A Capstone Experience is a final-
semester course that completes the preparation of a student for employment. For the welding

profession, certification is central to an individual's success in producing critical weldments for
industry. Therefore, it is a requirement of the Welding Technology Department in meeting the
intent of the Capstone Experience that you test as an all-position certified plate or pipe welder.
For specifics on certification, see the Project List at the end of this syllabus.
