Course Requirements

The students will be required to read the text, complete class exercises and send their results to the instructor for review.  Complete the required number of exercises, and succesfuly complete four major test over the major subjects with a passing grade.


Readings

The required textbook readings from "Introduction to Sociology 3e" by Openstax, located in ACC Blackboard. Reviewing the videos listed in each chapter.


Course Subjects

The course subjects for this course are:Basic Sociological Terms, Research, Cultures of our Society, Mass Media, Socialzation and Social Intereactions, Groups and Organizations, Devience and Social Control, Social Class, Education and Social Change.


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

1. Identify various methods of research and their characteristics used in the scientific study of sociology.

2. Explain the history of sociology and the fundamental school of thought.

3. Define the componment parts of culture, including values, norms and taboos.

4.  Be able to discuss the process of Socialization and Interaction accross a lifetime.

5.  Duscribe primary and secondary groups and the mondern bureaucracies.

6.  Define deviance from a sociological perspective.

7.  Define the characteristics of stratification in traditional and modern socities.
