Course Requirements

Course Description
WLDG 1457: Intermediate Shielded Metal Arc Welding. A study of the production of various
groove welds. Preparation of specimens for testing in test positions. Course Fee: $50.00; Course
Type: W
Prerequisites
WLDG 1428: Introduction to Shielded Metal Arc Welding.
Course Rationale
Students take this course typically to satisfy one of the following objectives:
 You are pursuing a Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science degree in Welding
Technology at Austin Community College, and this course is one of your degree
requirements.
 You are employed in the field of welding technology, you are making a transition to pipe
welding, and you need to develop open-root welding skills.

 You are employed in the field of welding technology, and you want to develop groove-
welding skills to apply to the fabrication of plate structures such as buildings, bridges,

and offshore platforms.
