Course Requirements

Grades are based on online course completion and comprehensive testing. If you have any questions concerning grading, please ask your instructor. The specific grading requirements for this course are as follows:

 

A.  Quizzes                 8 quizzes         63 points each            50%    500 points

            -Quizzes will be taken online recommended scheduling is on the course calendar. Quizzes may be retaken 3 times and Blackboard will record your highest score, use your textbook.

 

B. Discussion Boards    4 discussion board     25 points each        10%    100 points

            -There is one discussion board per Module.  

 

C.  Exams – may be taken only once, use your textbook and the study guides.

                                                                                                            40%    400 points

 

1.         Mid-term Exam                                                                       20%     200 points

 

2.         Final Exam                                                                             20%     200 points

 

Point total                                                                                                    1000 points

 

Certification Opportunity

If you would like to be certified by the American Red Cross, a Free workshop will be offered in November 2024, exact date To Be Determined. In the workshop you will demonstrate your skills on the mannequins and fellow classmates. The skills are listed below:

           

- Remove disposable gloves

            - Checking a responsive person

            - Checking a person who appears unresponsive

            - CPR for adult

            - Using an AED

            - Caring for a conscious choking victim, adult

            - External bleeding control

Course Subjects

Course Description: 

A course designed to enable the student to recognize and avoid hazards within his/her environment; to intelligently assist in case of accident or illness; to develop skills necessary for immediate and temporary care of a victim. First Aid and CPR Certification will be offered to those interested at the end of the semester. (ACC Catalog/prerequisites: none/Skills: Reading


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

Course Objectives:

    1. To learn the skills necessary to both properly assess and assist victims experiencing life threatening and non‐life-threatening medical situations.  
    2. To learn CPR/AED skills for Adults, Children, and Infants.  
    3. To learn correct bandaging and other first aid skills.  
    4. To successfully complete course materials.
