Course Requirements
This is a physical conditioning course that emphasizes correct techniques for improving flexibility with individual stretches from athletics, dance and yoga. We start the class with a warm-up, short hand weights/stretch bands section (sometimes), short aerobics section (to get muscles very warm), and then we enter into the floor stretch phase of class which includes yoga, pilates and dance stretches.
8 week course. All classes are asynchronous. Live classes may be periodically available with advance notice. All recorded class links will be sent through ACC email and posted to Blackboard.
Also required: A personal log marking your own 50 min workout per week will be submitted at the end of the semester. All asynchronous classes taken must be logged with a short review and submitted by the end of the semester.
Departmental Kinesiology Exit Exam.

Recommended, not required: Stretching, Anderson ISBN 0936070226
Also required. Appropriate stretching attire, a yoga mat or towel, and a set of stretch bands. 3-6lb Hand weights and ankle weights can also be used in place of stretch bands. Pilates balls and medicine balls occassionally used.
Course Subjects
1. Muscles-- rudimentary overview of large muscle groups, origins and insertions
2. Healthy lifestyle-- no smoking, eat and live well
3. Different Stretches-- PNF, Antagonist Contraction, solo, edges, qualities of muscles, tendons and ligaments
4. Benefits of Stretching-- less injuries, improvement of quality of life, freedom of movement
Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives
1. To learn the forms, fundamentals, skills and benefits of easy aerobic dance, yoga, pilates, and athletic stretching.
2. To learn how to correctly execute required skills and techniques as well as to use the equipment/facilities safely.
3. To understand how Kinesiology relates to a healthy lifestyle.
4. To become more flexible
