Course Requirements

Self Defense-Safety principles and skills which will enable students to avoid and/or minimize violence will be taught. Information on acculturated and lifestyle factors which influence “victim profile” will be covered. A white Gi, which is a martial arts uniform, is required  (information will be given on the first day of class). 

40% (40 points) attendance 40% (40 points)participation 10% (10 points) notebook 10% (10 points) written test(s)

Departmental Objectives:

1.To learn the rules, fundamentals, skills and strategies of self defense & martial arts conditioning.

2. To learn how to correctly execute required skills and techniques as well as to use the equipment/facilities safely.

3. To understand how Kinesiology relates to a healthy individual lifestyle.

 

Course Objectives: Self Defense

  1. To understand the structure, physiological, and performance aspects of conditioning.
  2. To improve physical fitness, balance and strength through conditioning as well as understanding the relationship between conditioning and self defense.
  3. To learn applications of self defense, to be able to apply information covered in class and to reduce chances to being attacked.
