Online attendance                                             10 points each class, 15 in all, 150 total

Financial article summarized and presented     20 points

M3 AccKnowlege Software Assignments          10 points each and a bonus 10 points for completing all

Guest Speaker Assignment                               30 points (must be present for speaker)

Film Evaluation – Inequality for All                    25 points

Mid-Term Test                                                   100 points

Final Exam                                                       100 points

Total Evaluation                                                675 points

REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS/ MATERIALS:

We will be using an online “book” for this class that uses online module completion and an online workbook. The company is called AME Engage and the course is called Austin CC 01/2022 Financial Management.  This is a cloud-based software system that can be accessed by any computer whether a PC, Mac, Chromebook or iPad.  You can purchase this online book through the ACC Bookstore:  https://austin.bncollege.com/course-material-listing-page

 


Course Subjects

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

HAMG 2332, FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (3-3-0). This course introduces and emphasizes the principles, concepts and systems utilized in the managerial accounting and budgetary areas of a hospitality business. Focus will be on assessing financial information to develop student’s knowledge, skills and techniques throughout the managerial decision-making process.  The class will also address macroeconomic ideas of the 2008/2009 financial crash and the related managerial repercussions.

  1. Review and evaluate the various financial applications utilized within the hospitality industry.
  2. Prepare, plan, execute and evaluate financial statements for a hospitality department.
  3. Demonstrate understanding of revenue and expense accounting through analysis of balance sheets.
  4. Identify the financial organizational structure and its role in the planning of hotel business.
  5. Critically analyze the roles and responsibilities of all personnel within the work-based learning environment.
  6. Evaluate the purpose of RevPAR and the impact it has on yield management and financial strategies.
  7. Explore various budget streams and the impact each has on a finance department.
  8. Explain the management decision making process and the skills and techniques required.
