Course Requirements
Course Prerequisites: ARCH 1303 Architectural Design I and ARCH 1307 Graphics I
A list of supplies necessary for producing drawings and making models will be discussed on the first day of class. These supplies will, in part, be supplemented by the department, but may require the student to salvage or purchase incidental materials.
Course Subjects
Creative problem solving and presentation of principles, concepts and ideas as applied to introductory architectural projects. Course is intended to fulfill all or part of the following National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) Student Performance Criteria: A.1 Professional Communication Skills; A.2 Design Thinking Skills; A.4 Architectural Design Skills; and A.5 Ordering Systems.
Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of spatial relationships.
- Engage and apply a design approach across multiple scales and contexts.
- Produce projects that demonstrate an awareness of the natural environment.
- Recognize the use of project programs.
- Recognize the use of precedents.
- Explain the significance of proportion and scale in the built environment.
- Select the appropriate representational media to translate programmatic issues into architectural form.
- Articulate verbal and formal compositional vocabulary of basic architectural concepts.
