Course Subjects

This course provides a health-related work-based learning experience in a variety of settings that allow the student to apply theories, skills, and concepts related to the role of the nursing leader and manager.


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

  1. Synthesize knowledge, skills, and abilities gained from personal experiential learning, prerequisite, and co-requisite courses included in the program of study.  (AACN I, IX) (DECs I A, C, D & IIB, C)
  2. Demonstrate principles of leadership in a select healthcare setting. (AACN II, V, VII, VIII) (DECs IA, IID, E, IV B, F)
  3. Evaluate methods of resource allocation in a select healthcare setting to determine the effectiveness in meeting institutional outcomes. (AACN IV, V, VII) (DECs IA, C, II C, F, IVD)
  4. Act as a change agent to improve quality care within the select healthcare setting. (AACN III, VI) (DECs IIIA, B, IVA, C)
  5. Apply quality improvement models to promote adherence to quality standards/benchmarks in select healthcare settings. (AACN V, VI) (DECs IVAC)

Course Requirements

Students must achieve a passing score of 80% (B) or higher in the course for progression in the program. For late assignments, 5 pts will be taken off of the grade per day, up to 50% of the total assignment grade. Students have one virtual “Extension Token” that can be used for a 48-hour extension on any assignment without penalty to the grade. The student must email the instructor to use that extension token.
