Course Subjects

Family assessment, needs assessment, assessing acces to health care, assessment of complementary and alternative therapies, equity in health assessment and genomics in nursing. 


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

The course focuses on comprehensive health assessment needs across the lifespan of the individual as a member of the family, community, population, and environment. Content includes access to healthcare, genomics, and traditional and complementary healthcare practices.

Upon completion of this course, the nurse will:

  1. Integrate knowledge from the discipline of nursing, sciences, and the humanities in acquisition and application of nursing knowledge, competencies, and values for professional nursing practice.
  2. Analyze factors that influence health assessment across the lifespan.
  3. Differentiate health assessment components across the lifespan
  4. Integrate holistic health assessment in the management of the individual as a member of family.
  5. Determine the impact of access to healthcare based on alterations in health status. 
  6. Integrate the use of genomic information as an adjunct to nursing assessment
  7. Analyze the legal and ethical implications of assessment findings, and patient information specific to genomic research.
  8. Investigate the use of traditional and complementary healthcare practices for the individual, family, population, and community.
