Course Requirements
This is an 8-week, fully online, asynchronous course. That means there are no class meetings. This is not a fully self-paced course; there is a schedule and deadlines.

*This type of online course is designed for mature and capable students with self-discipline, the ability to work independently, and good time-management skills.
DETERMINATION OF GRADE AND EXPLANATION OF COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Exams (100%): Students will take four multiple-choice exams, each worth 25% of the final grade in the course. Exam deadlines are final; there are no re-tests and the exams are not open-book or open-notes. Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor is required - access to a computer with webcam is required. It is the student's responsibility to have a computer that can access the browser.
Internet Access: Internet access is required for the entire semester.

REQUIRED TEXTBOOK: Your required textbook for this course is Calvert, DeLeon, and Cantrell, The History of Texas, 6th edition. This is an e-book and will be available the first day of the semester through Blackboard. Course Description:
History 2301 surveys the history of Texas from pre-Columbian era up to current times. For a full catalogue description, go to the history department web site, http://www.austincc.edu/history/.

After completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Explain the New World setting and Old-World historical factors shaping the era of Spanish exploration and settlement
- Explain the indigenous presence and the cultural exchanges that took place in New Spain
- Identify the different frontier institutions and cite their impact on the development of Texas culture and society under Spain
- Understand the implications of accommodation and resistance by Native peoples in the far northern frontera
- Describe the key components of Spain’s legacy in the colonial era
- Understand the implications of the major migration of Anglo-Americans into Texas
- Understand the political and economic factors for growing Tejano and Anglo resentment against the tyranny of Santa Anna’s governance
- Cite key reasons for the Texas revolution
- Understand the political and social process of creating a nation
- Describe the social, economic, and diplomatic challenges facing the Republic of Texas
- Chronicle events leading to the Mexican war
- Understand the implications of the treaty of Guadalupe hidalgo
- Understand the implications for Texas throughout the 1830s, 1840s and 1850s as southerners migrated to the state in significant numbers
