Course Requirements

Honors Texas Literature with a focus on a wide range of Lone Star writing

ENGLISH 1302 is a continuation of English 1301 with emphasis on analysis of readings in prose fiction.  Students will use literary elements to interpret short fiction. The elements include central idea, character, conflict, point of view, setting, language and tone.

Grade breakdown:

Lead discussion on a story as "knowitall." 10 percent

Four essays (10-15-15-15) 55 percent

Discussion participation 20 percent

Departmental exam  15

Lone Star Literature: A Texas Anthology by Don Graham

Mayhem by Elizabeth Harris

We Burn Daylight by Bret Anthony Johnston


Course Subjects

Students will use literary elements to interpret short fiction, novellas and poetry by Texan writers.

The elements include:  central idea, character, conflict, point of view, setting, language and tone and will be incorporated into five primary essays, followed by the C Test and B and A papers.
