Course Requirements

-Prerequisites: None listed.

-Attendance: Mandatory. Excessive unexcused absences may result in withdrawal 

-Participation: Students are expected to be on time, with the proper tools (tool list found on syllabus), and actively engaged.

-Safety Compliance: Required. Students must follow lab safety procedures and utilize their PPE; violations may lead to removal from class.


Readings

We utilize "Welding: Principles and Applications, Jeffus, Larry,   Delmar Publishers, Inc." , current edition. Instruction and readings/handouts are provided by the instructor.

Students are required to:

  • Read the course syllabus
  • Follow posted lab safety signage
  • Engage in class discussions and demonstrations

Course Subjects

This course introduces students to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) fundamentals, emphasizing safety, equipment setup, and basic welding skills.

Topics include:

  • GMAW and FCAW equipment setup and maintenance
  • Electrode selection and handling
  • Bead placement techniques
  • Welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
  • Weld quality and defect identification

Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • Demonstrate safe GMAW and FCAW operations
  • Set up and operate welding equipment
  • Perform basic welds using appropriate electrodes
  • Identify weld defects and understand corrective actions
