Course Requirements

WLDG 2450: Orbital Tube Welding. An overview of welding in the semi-conductor and related
industries. Special emphasis on the disciplines of orbital tube welding, including cutting, facing,
and development of weld procedures. This is the Capstone Experience course for the Ultrahigh
Purity Piping Certificate. Course Fee: $50
Prerequisites
WLDG 1434 Introduction to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)


Readings

All reading material will be distributed in class at no charge to the student.


Course Subjects

To gain an understanding of how the orbital welding process works. The

student will gain an insight into the high tech industry and clean room protocol. Special empha-
sis on the disciplines of orbital welding, cutting, facing, and development of welding procedures.

The student will acquire an understanding of fittings, tubing, and tungsten used in the orbital
welding process. Students will acquire the skills necessary to pursue an entry level career in orbital welding.


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

Describe the fitting, tubing, and tungsten used in the orbital tube welding process; and
demonstrate skill in orbital tube welding, cutting, and facing.

• Demonstrate welding skills sufficient to meet industry certified welder standards.
• Interpret codes and safety standards that pertain to the welding industry.
• Use proper hand, measuring, and layout tools, to fabricate welded projects or certification
coupons.
• Demonstrate work attributes and ethics that contribute to personal success and towards
employment goals.
