Course Requirements

Instructional Methodology: This class is an asynchronous online Instructional course that includes the viewing of 15 videos and completion of corresponding quizzes; the completion of four exams as well as the completion of four Wellness Journal assignments.

1. Mandatory orientation and turning in the information sheet. Submit the MANDATORY ONLINE orientation. It is worth 10 points.

2.  Exams – There will be 4 multiple-choice tests with approximately 30 questions on each exam. Each exam is worth 100 points. The total point value for all exams combined is 400. All exams can be taken at home. Students may retest each exam one time. Each test must be taken at least once to complete the course. The exam schedule is:

            Exam 1 – Covers Ch. 1, 2, 3, 4,5           

            Exam 2 – Covers Ch.  6 , 7, 8, 9, 10           

            Exam 3 – Covers Ch. 11, 12,13, 14,15    

            Exam 4 - Covers Ch 16, 17, 18, 19, 20

3. Labs- There are four short health activities for students to complete. The labs are designed to bring attention to the health and habits of the individual student and help them include self-care into their daily routine. They are worth 75 points each and take one week each to complete.  

4. Video Quizzes - There are 15 short videos that are streaming on Blackboard. Immediately after viewing each video, students will be required to answer ten questions on the ideas covered. Students will take the quizzes through Blackboard. Each quiz is worth 20 points. They are required and repeatable. The total point value for this assignment is 300 points.

5. Exit Exam- This short 15-question quiz covers basic health information from all chapters and is repeatable.

This class is part of the First Day Access program. The textbook is paid for with your tuition. 

2. In addition to the books, the Study Questions that accompany your textbook, Invitation to Health, are available on Blackboard under “Course Materials.” You are strongly encouraged to review these prior to taking the exams.

3. The Video Quiz Questions that accompany the videos are on Blackboard under “Video Quizzes.” Go to Blackboard to print out or download the Video Quiz Questions. The videos are also streaming on Blackboard and can be found under “Videos Quizzes."


Course Subjects

Course Description: Personal Health is a fundamental course in the principles and the problems of healthful living, as they apply today. This course emphasizes assessment of health status and provides a body of information that can lead to rational choice in lifestyle

Over fifty medical and health experts share their knowledge of critical health issues impacting our country at this time. Great care has been taken to provide students with the most up-to-date information available today on personal health. The knowledge gained from this course should assist students in making appropriate choices towards a healthier lifestyle.

Course Rationale: The purpose of this course is to become familiar with the important aspects of personal health in order to give student the knowledge to make correct lifestyle choices.


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

Course Objectives:  Personal Health is designed to guide you to resources for the latest information regarding making personal decisions about health. There are activities in web search, skill building, and practice tests to help you become aware of your own health practices and evaluate them for continued routine or modification. Ultimately, you will be able to develop these skills to make decisions about changing your attitudes about your health and well being to live a healthier lifestyle.

Departmental Objectives:

  1. To learn the fundamentals of personal health and health related issues.
  2. To understand how personal health practices affect one personally as well as those around them.
  3. To understand how Kinesiology relates to a healthy individual lifestyle.
