Chapter You Decide Part II- This includes you videoing your responses. Great way to practice public speaking. It will critique your Reponses and give feedback. Please remember it is just for improvement.
Chapter Quiz
Successfully complete examinations: There will be (2) examinations, a combination of multiple choice and true/false. Test material will come from your textbook. You are required to take the exam online by the date indicated on the calendar. There will not be a make-up exam. There is NOT a comprehensive Final Exam. Each of these exams is worth 100 pts each for a total of 200.
The midterm covers materials chapters 1-6. It will consist of multiple-choice and true-false
questions. Availability dates will be posted in the “Announcements” section and course calendar.
The final examination will cover chapters 7-15. The final examination will consist of multiple-choice and true-false questions. Availability dates will be posted in the
Announcements” section and course calendar.
It is important that you complete the scheduled examinations. Only in exceptional cases will students be permitted to take an examination late.
Attendance/Participation: It is your responsibility to log on at least three different times on three different days to check on announcements. Failure to do so is not a valid excuse for late assignments.
Mind Tap: You will complete your work in Mind Tap. Each chapter divides as such:
Activity (1) is to answer a question worth 5pts. Objective is to connect topics from the chapter to everyday life and the world around you.
Activity (2) Learn It: Chapter Video Case worth 10pts. Objective is to become familiar with key concepts of the chapter as they are presented in real life situations and take the assessments.
Activity (3) You decide Part I-Choose your Path worth 10pts. Objective is to apply your knowledge as your role play in scenarios specific to Criminal Justice.
Activity (4) You decide Part II-Justify your choices worth 5pts. Objective is to justify your decisions by applying key concepts to defend your choices.
Activity (5) Chapter quiz worth 20pts. Objective is 20 study questions that help you remember the basics of the chapter.
TCOLE requirements. Objective is to learn the TCOLE requirements for the Texas JJ system. There is a total of 3 worksheets to be completed, each worth 50pts with a total of 150pts.
Texas Family Code requirements. Objective is to learn the TCOLE requirements for the Texas JJ System. There are 2 assignments to be completed each worth 100 pts each with a total of 200pts.
The total points to earn for this course is 1300 pts.
Course Subjects
This course is a study of the juvenile justice process. Topics include specialized juvenile law, role of the juvenile law, role of the juvenile courts, role of police agencies, role of correctional agencies, and theories concerning delinquency. In addition, students will study the history, philosophy, organization, processes and functions of the juvenile justice systems in the United States and Texas. Emphasis is placed on jurisdiction, treatment and juvenile court proceedings in juvenile justice decision-making. In addition, students will study child abuse and neglect and how the system is designed to deal with these serious issues.

Define the functions and roles of all major components (police, courts and corrections) of U.S. Criminal
Justice System.
