Course Requirements

CDEC 2166 COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Self-Evaluation Rubric

Students will evaluate themselves on the competencies they are expected to meet at the ACC Children’s Lab School; these competencies relate specifically to accreditation standards set forth by NAEYC.

Journals

Students will complete 4 journal entries over the course of the semester detailing their fieldwork in their assigned ACC Children’s Lab School classroom.

Weeklong Planning Form

Working in groups and in conjunction with their ACC Children’s Lab School mentor teacher, students will design a developmentally appropriate week-long lesson plan centered on the varying needs of children in their assigned ACC Children’s Lab School classroom.

Instructor Observations

Students will be observed by their instructor at various points in the semester, both at the ACC Children’s Lab School, as well as at the student’s place of employment (if applicable).

Final Mentor Teacher Evaluation Rubric

At the conclusion of the practicum, students will be evaluated by their mentor teacher on ACC Children’s Lab School competencies and accreditation standards set forth by NAEYC. The Child Care and Development program at ACC is accredited by NAEYC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children. As an accredited program, our courses must meet certain criteria and align to national standards which serve as “a vision of excellence” for students preparing to work in early childhood education. The Final Mentor Teacher Evaluation Rubric in CDEC 2166 is one of six key assessments (KA4) our faculty have designed to specifically align to accreditation standards set forth by NAEYC.

The Child Care and Development program at ACC is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Commission on the Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs. Therefore, program learning outcomes correlate with the Professional Standards and Competencies for Early Childhood Educators NAEYC.
