Course Requirements
A study of cell culture techniques, the laboratory emphasizes the principles and practices of initiation, cultivation, maintenance, and the preservation of cell lines including applications such as transfection and project management. Aseptic techniques. Independent project.
Prerequisites: BIOL1414, BIOL1415, and BITC 1340. Must pass a placement exam.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
- Maintain a cell culture facility including safety & security protocols and waste disposal
- Maintain a laboratory notebook and create documents related to industry-regulated cell culture
- Prepare sterile cell culture material and media
- Demonstrate aseptic technique & monitor for cell contamination
- Passage cells successfully without antibiotics
- Thaw & cryopreserve cells
- Peer teach cell culture techniques
- Research, design and implement, and evaluate assays using cells
- Transfect cells
- Grow and differentiate stem cells
- Analyze data and effectively communicate results with colleagues
- Successfully troubleshoot and make changes to protocols associated with cell culture
