Course Requirements

COURSE EXPECTATIONS 

  • Please read the syllabus, course calendar and all other resources thoroughly and ask me any questions if something is not clear.
  • Keep up with your Module schedule.
  • Check our Blackboard course website or ACC email at least once every day for important announcements.
  • Post in Packback every week.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS 

  • Packback Questions/Answers/Responses: You will create and post one (1) weekly Packback question and answer it and two (2) responses to two other questions/answersEach question+answer is worth one (1) point and each response is worth one (1) a point. All Packback activities are worth a total of 42 points.
  • Exams: There will be 13 Chapter Exams. These exams are open-book, untimed exams consisting of multiple choice questions. All exams count for 50 points toward your final grade. 
  • There will be one essay paper worth 10 points.

Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

So what is Sociology? Great question! Sociology is the focused study of society. This course is designed to provide you with a better understanding of the social world in which we live.  We will learn to develop a sociological imagination and compare and contrast the major theoretical perspectives in sociology. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: 

  • Compare and contrast the basic theoretical perspectives of sociology.
  • Identify the various methodological approaches to the collection and analysis of data in sociology. 
  • Describe key concepts in sociology. 
  • Describe the important findings of various subfields of sociology.
  • Explain the various links between individual experiences and broader institutional forces.
