Course Requirements

Because this is an online course, students are expected to use self-discipline to pace themselves and keep current. You will be required to check in at least three different times on different days in a week period. Announcements will be posted indicating important information about the class. . Please refer to the course calendar for important dates.

 

The course is ideally designed for the student who cannot or does not want to attend regularly scheduled on-campus classes. Students can complete course requirements while continuing to meet other responsibilities and demands. When and where you work is not important; what matters is completing the work in a timely fashion while meeting course content requirements.

 

The midterm and final examination each count for 5% of your final grade (10% total). Presentation counts for 10% of your grade. Student Exercises count for 35% of your grade (5% for each exercise) and 15% of your grade will be based on your article reading assignments, chapter check points for 20%, and the last 10% will be the chapter quizzes.

In addition to the textbook, students will be required to locate specific articles and reports on the Internet.

 

 


Course Subjects

This course is designed to familiarize the student with the most recent developments in community-based corrections, including implementation, management, effectiveness, and challenges. It provides detailed descriptions of major alternatives to incarceration, assumptions underlying programs, and outcome studies. This course is structured to provide motivated students with opportunities to master a body of knowledge on the current state of community corrections. 

 

 


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

An introductory study of the role of the community in corrections; community programs for adults and juveniles; administration of community programs; legal issues; future trends in community treatment.
