Course Requirements

Course Description: Weight Training & Conditioning: Designed to help students identify and understand the benefits of weight training & conditioning and how they affect the body. Students will also be able to design and develop a balanced weight training & conditioning program to meet their needs. The varied goals and physical abilities of each student will be considered and accommodated. (ACC Catalog/prerequisites: none)

Please be safe and always consult a physician before beginning any workout program. If you are concerned about the risk associated with any move, please play it safe and skip or modify the move. Students will be provided modifications on any move upon request. If you have an injury, or history of, that provides challenges, you are more than welcome to contact your instructor for advice or alternate activities. Please attend the first day or two of classes, then you may speak with your professor about any alternate attendance.

Initial fitness test- Orientation- Workout Logs- Midterm assignment- Final fitness test- Exit Exam- TOTAL 1000 POINTS

Assignments: There will be a short assignment during the semester to help provide clarity on what your goals and needs are to achieve your desired fitness result. Detailed instructions for each assignment may be found on Blackboard.

Fitness Tests: There is a short fitness test to assess where you are starting in your fitness journey. This test will be repeated at the end of the semester to assess program success. Your grade is not tied to any fitness test result; this is just a tool to provide insight. This can be assessed in class, or remotely.

Workout Logs: YOU MAY FOLLOW THE SUGGESTED WORKOUTS OR DEVELOP YOUR OWN FROM OTHER SOURCES. BE SURE TO CHECK WITH ME

REGARDING SAFETY: Recreational activities such as hiking canoeing, etc. can also be counted. Students will be choosing a workout from available resources on Blackboard. There are a variety of workout videos to follow, there are also written workouts that can be completed for a varied and flexible schedule. Each week students will be asked to complete a total of two and a half hours of workout per week. This can be done in NO LESS THAN 30 minutes per session and NO MORE THAN 2.5 hours hour per session. It is best to be consistent, but I try to be understanding. However, if you miss the required hours one week you may make them up the following week. You may not complete more than 10 hours of workouts a week for credit. If you go above the 10 hours of workout per and want to claim the extra credit, you may submit any overage of time in one submission during the midterm and the additional hours at the final week for 25 points each deadline (50 points total). Students will complete a written log and submit the digital form in one of two ways:

Download the workout log provided on Blackboard, fill it out and save to device, then upload and submit the document through Blackboard for the appropriate week assignment tab.

*****OR****

Write weekly activities in detail directly on the submission text line in Blackboard on the appropriate week assignment tab. Email us if you encounter a problem.

***Examples and tools with detailed info are located on Blackboard.

Extra Credit: You may attend a fitness event, write a review of a health-related documentary, or complete extra workouts too receive extra credit.
