Course Requirements

VNSG 2463 Clinical-Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Training: Maternal-Child and Leadership (4-0-16) A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. With an emphasis on clinical reasoning and caring behaviors, the student experiences the role of the vocational nurse in the obstetric and pediatric setting. Clinical experiences in a variety of health care settings provide opportunities for the student to synthesize pediatric and obstetric concepts. The vocational nursing roles of member of the profession, provider of patient-centered care, patient safety advocate, and member of the healthcare team are examined as the student develops beginning leadership and management skills in a variety of healthcare settings. VNSG 2463 is a clinical course that meets an average of 16 hours a week for a total of 256 hours for the semester. Skills: P Prerequisites: VNSG 1429, VNSG 1201, and VNSG 1461. Co-requisite: VNSG 1219, VNSG 1230, and VNSG 1234. Course Type: W.

Course Methodology

 

  1. Learning activities are listed in the course syllabus. These activities may include pre-clinical lectures, discussions, role-play, writing nursing care plans, oral presentations, demonstrations, return demonstrations, audiovisuals, reading articles, textbooks, clinical foci, patient teaching plans, and practice in simulated lab and experiences.

 

  1. Students are responsible for reading all assigned materials, participating in all learning activities, and answering all objectives. The student is responsible for all material presented in the pre-clinical class and post conferences

Learning activities will require students to access and utilize Blackboard for instructions, submitting assignments, and collaboration.  Information about computer lab availability will be provided
