Course Subjects

Students will gain proficiency in the fundamentals of signal flow, eq, analog consoles, digital audio workstations, as well as basic understandings of acoustics and music business concepts.

Overview of the recording studio.  Includes basic studio electronics and acoustic principles, waveform properties, microphone properties and placement, studio set up and signal flow, console theory, signal processing, multitrack recording, overview of mixing and editing, discussion of the human ear, and music business concepts.


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

By the end of the semester, students will employ analog consoles and digital audio workstations to record a variety of audio sources by selecting appropriate microphones or direct boxes for the task.
