Course Requirements

  1. COURSE INFORMATION

Welcome to PSYC 2316! In this class we will understand personality from different psychological schools of thought and theorists. The course will critically examine these approaches and the environment in which they were developed as well as analyze the scientific literature and research that does or does not support them and how and why it does (or does not!). We will meet regularly in person in addition to having online assignments. The structure of the class will include in person and online lectures and discussions, frequent quizzes to review and clarify knowledge, exams to solidify knowledge, and a course-long project that allows for students to research a topic of their interest and present it to the class in a method of their choosing. In this fast-paced 8 week course, attending lectures, keeping up with readings and assignments, engaging in class discussions, and working with peers is critical for success.

  1. COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is a survey of psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive, trait, and behavioral personality theories and research methods. This course includes special topics such as personality testing, anxiety, self-control, and defense mechanisms. The goal is for each student to learn factual, scientifically-based information that will provoke thought and contribute to a greater understanding of personality development.
