If you drop a course before its census date, or official reporting date, the course is deleted from your enrollment, does not earn any grade, and does not appear on your transcript. If you drop a course after the census date, a grade will be included on your transcript. Reporting dates vary, so you are strongly encouraged to consult your instructor, the course syllabus, or the Austin Community College website for the drop and withdrawal dates for your course. If your first college enrollment occurred in the fall of 2001 or later, you may not drop more than 6 courses during your cumulative enrollment at any Texas public college or university.

Missed Exams & Late Work.
Missed exams and assignments can be turned in late. 10 points will be removed for each class day late the assignment or exam is. Any assignment more than 5 classes late may be turned in for a maximum of 50% credit. In-class sight singing assignments may not be made up unless you have missed more than two of them. Please notify me in advance for any conflicts you may have with exams.

Incomplete Grade. If a student is unable to complete the course at the end of the semester due to an emergency or other life-altering circumstance, an incomplete grade for the semester may be considered. A new completion date will be given to the student, but it may not be later than the final withdrawal date in the subsequent semester. When the student completes the required work by the deadline, I will submit a form to change the student’s grade from an incomplete to the earned grade. If an incomplete is not resolved by the deadline, the grade will automatically convert to an F.

Sight Singing Practice Records
You should be practicing sight singing skills regularly outside of class. By the end of class each Thursday, you are should submit a practice record with specific notes about at least four separate sight-singing practice sessions per week. Your practice records should be submitted via email, and should include the verification codes from your ear training assignments. *If you prefer, this grade can be replaced by your lowest midterm or final exam score.

Ear Training Assignments
You will be practicing ear training outside of class, usually via www.musictheory.net. Verification codes for your progress reports (generated through the website) should be sent to me as part of the weekly practice records. You should answer 50+ problems per session, and you should have at least 3 ear-training practice sessions per week. Up to 10 extra credit points per week may be earned for additional problems completed (and/or additional practice sessions).

Each time you complete a practice session, click the three dots on the upper right hand of the screen, and click “show progress report”. From there, click “copy link”, and paste the link into your practice records. This will enable me to view your results.

In-Class Sight Singing Performances
Beginning in week 3, most Thursdays will include individual performances of sight singing exercises (from the book and elsewhere). Some of these exercises will be prepared in advance, and others will be true sight singing. Your worst score will be removed at the end of the semester.

Dropping/Withdrawing. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate all withdrawals in this course. You may withdraw, or drop from a 16-week course with a grade of W any time on or before the end of the 12th week in the fall or spring 16-week session. Shorter semesters have prorated drop dates.

For more information on the withdrawal process you can check this page: https://catalog.austincc.edu/support-services-and-student-progress/student-progress/droppingwithdrawing-from-courses/
