Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the profession and philosophy of health coaching.
- Understand how to apply behavior-change models and theories to assist future clients in making lifestyle changes.
- Explain techniques of stress management.
- Explain basic principles of nutrition, physical activity, and sleep hygiene.
- Evaluate whether a client’s substance use (i.e. alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs, recreational drugs) are in line with the client’s health and wellness goals.
- Explain the health risks of obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, depression, anxiety, dyslipidemia, cancer, arthritis, low back pain, and osteoporosis.
- Explain behavior change strategies to assist clients in managing obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, depression, anxiety, dyslipidemia, cancer, arthritis, low back pain, and osteoporosis.
- Develop a plan for holistic wellness change for a friend or family member.
- Apply principles of wellness coaching to help clients find motivation to achieve health behavior changes.
