Course Requirements
Student Learning Outcomes & General Education Competencies
Course Level: Specific skills and competencies expected of students who complete this course include:
- Identify and explain gross and microscopic anatomical structures of all body systems and on an appropriate level (knowledge, comprehension, application and analysis)
- Identify and explain anatomical location, gross structures, and histological structure of tissues & organs of the human body
- Explain basic physiological processes of all body systems and on an appropriate level (knowledge, comprehension, application and analysis)
- Explain the role of body systems and mechanisms in maintaining homeostasis
- Work safely in a lab setting
General Education: As a Core Curriculum course, students completing this course will demonstrate competence in:
- Critical Thinking - Gathering, analyzing, synthesizing, evaluating and applying information.
- Interpersonal Skills - Interacting collaboratively to achieve common goals.
- Quantitative and Empirical Reasoning - Applying mathematical, logical and scientific principles and methods.

The textbook is Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology, 7th Edition (ISBN: 9780134098845) OR 8th Edition (ISBN: 9780135203804 ) by Martini & Bartholomew. Publisher: Pearson
Required Lab Materials: See the Lab Schedule (on pages 7 & 8) to know when these will be needed.
- Z87-rated Safety Glasses or Goggles: You should have your own non-tinted safety eyewear on days chemicals or preserved specimens are used in the lab (Concept Lab Activity 1 & Dissection Days).
