Course Requirements

Grades:          A= 900-1000 points

                        B= 800 – 899 points

                        C=700-799 points

                        D=600-699 points

                        F=0-599 points

 

Grades are based on online course completion, attendance at skill sessions with competent demonstration of skills, and comprehensive testing. If you have any questions concerning grading, please ask your instructor. The specific grading requirements for this course are as follows:

 

A.  Quizzes                8 quizzes        63 points each           50%     500 points

            -Quizzes will be taken online as scheduled on the course calendar. Quizzes may be retaken 3 times and Blackboard will record your highest score, use your textbook.

 

B. Discussion Boards             4 discussion board     50 points each        20% 200 points     

 

C.  Exams – may be taken only once, use your textbook            30%     300 points

1.         Mid-term Exam                                                                       15%     150 points

 

2.         Final Exam                                                                             15%     150 points

 

Point total                                                                                          1000 points

 

If you are interested in becoming certified by the American Red Cross in First Aid, CPR, & AED send me an email letting me know and at the end of the semester a free one-day workshop will be scheduled for certifications.

 

The skills required for certification will be:

           

- Remove disposable gloves

            - Checking a responsive person

            - Checking a person who appears unresponsive

            - CPR for adult, child, infant

            - Using an AED for adult, child, infant

  1. To learn skills necessary to both properly assess and assist victims experiencing life-threatening and non-life-threatening medical situations, over a broad range of topics
  2. To perform bandaging and other first aid skills effectively.
