Course Description Business and Professional Communication is the study and application of sending and receiving communication messages within the business and professional context. This course explores oral communication competencies in dyads, interviews, groups/teams, and presentations. Special emphasis is given to using technologically mediated formats in the workplace.

    Course Objectives: What will you learn after completing this course?

    When you complete this course successfully, you should be able to:

    1. Demonstrate communication competence and critical thinking through an understanding of the elements of the foundational communication models.
    2. Identify the cultural dimensions influencing communication competence within a diverse workplace. 
    3. Identify personality/communication styles that affect workplace communication. 
    4. Demonstrate written and oral competencies related to job searches, interviewing, and performance appraisals.
    5. Identify and/or demonstrate oral communication competencies related to professional interaction, ethics, and conflict management.
    6. Compare and contrast effective and ineffective communication strategies in interpersonal workplace relationships.
    7. Recognize and evaluate the dynamics of leadership and membership in workplace groups and teams.
    8. Utilize various communication technologies competently in professional settings.
    9. Identify and design strategies to facilitate effective meetings. 
    10. Create and deliver a professional business presentation including a question/answer session.
