COURSE RATIONALE
Utilizing appropriate safety procedures, demonstrate familiarity with historical development and career information on the automotive industry; demonstrate safe, professional, and responsible work practices; identify and demonstrate the proper use of shop equipment and tools; identify and describe functions of vehicle subsystems; demonstrate the use of service publications; identify various automotive fasteners used in industry; and perform automotive maintenance.

To introduce students to the automotive industry and prepare them for entry-level employment and certification through ASE.

TEXTBOOK/MATERIALS/SOFTWARE: EXAMPLE: Automotive Technology: A Systems Approach 7th edition – Today’s Technician Series, Author: Jack Erjavec, Rob Thompson. The Cengage MindTap companion curriculum is required for this course.

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODOLOGY
Lecture / Lab
Using a combination of computer based instruction, lecture, and faculty demonstration, students will practice towards mastery of all required NATEF tasks
STUDENT TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT
Austin Community College provides free, secure drive-up WiFi to students and employees in the parking lots of all campus locations. WiFi can be accessed seven days a week, 7 am to 11 pm. Additional details are available at https://www.austincc.edu/sts.
Students who do not have the necessary technology to complete their ACC courses can request to borrow devices from Student Technology Services. Available devices include iPads, webcams, headsets, calculators, etc. Students must be registered for a credit course, Adult Education, or Continuing Education course to be eligible. GRADING SYSTEM
Weekly Chapter Quiz………………………10%
Class Test average....................................10%
Attendance and Punctually .......................15%
Final Test Grade........................................35%
Daily Grade…..………..........………………25%

A positive constructive attitude also plays an important part in the overall evaluation of the shop work and will be directly related to the shop grade.
Any withdrawals are the responsibility of the student. If a student fails to make the withdrawal by the drop date, an automatic grade of "F" will be awarded.
Weekly Quizzes: There will be a total of 10 quizzes which will be completed on Blackboard. The quizzes will be available for 1 week each. The Quizzes averaged together will constitute 10% of the Total grade.
Daily Grade: there will also be a grade given for shop participation during the class day. The daily grade will constitute 25% of the Total grade. This grade is derived from both your actions and the time you spend in the class and in the shop as well as homework assignments. You will also be required to have a uniform shirt and safety glasses.
Attendance and Punctuality; 15% of your total grade will be earned for you showing up and being on time. Class starts at 1:35 PM and goes thru 4:15pm. If you arrive late or leave before dismissed it will affect the grade as follows: 2% each occurrence for late arrival or early dismissal. 5% each day absent with a limit of 2 without being withdrawn from class. If you leave early without letting me know, it will affect your grade by 5%.
Class Test; there will be four in class test, with the last one being your post class test. The average of all four test will be 10% of your total grade.
Final: There is no mid-term test but there will be a final. This final is mandatory and will be comprehensive and make up 35% of the total grade so it is very important. A score of 70% or better on the Final exam is mandatory in order to pass the class.
You can earn a bonus 5 points added to the final test grade by turning in a 500 word essay about Alternative fuels, must have cited page.
Notebook: 5% of the Total grade given will be for a well-kept, organized and complete notebook.
The notebook will be constructed as follows:
Cover Sheet (name, course name and number, section number).

STUDENT TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT
Austin Community College provides free, secure drive-up WiFi to students and employees in the parking lots of all campus locations. WiFi can be accessed seven days a week, 7 am to 11 pm. Additional details are available at https://www.austincc.edu/sts.
Students who do not have the necessary technology to complete their ACC courses can request to borrow devices from Student Technology Services. Available devices include iPads, webcams, headsets, calculators, etc. Students must be registered for a credit course, Adult Education, or Continuing Education course to be eligible. A positive constructive attitude also plays an important part in the overall evaluation of the shop work and will be directly related to the shop grade.
Any withdrawals are the responsibility of the student. If a student fails to make the withdrawal by the drop date, an automatic grade of "F" will be awarded.
Weekly Quizzes: There will be a total of 10 quizzes which will be completed on Blackboard. The quizzes will be available for 1 week each. The Quizzes averaged together will constitute 10% of the Total grade.
Daily Grade: there will also be a grade given for shop participation during the class day. The daily grade will constitute 25% of the Total grade. This grade is derived from both your actions and the time you spend in the class and in the shop as well as homework assignments. You will also be required to have a uniform shirt and safety glasses.
Attendance and Punctuality; 15% of your total grade will be earned for you showing up and being on time. Class starts at 1:35 PM and goes thru 4:15pm. If you arrive late or leave before dismissed it will affect the grade as follows: 2% each occurrence for late arrival or early dismissal. 5% each day absent with a limit of 2 without being withdrawn from class. If you leave early without letting me know, it will affect your grade by 5%.
Class Test; there will be four in class test, with the last one being your post class test. The average of all four test will be 10% of your total grade.
Final: There is no mid-term test but there will be a final. This final is mandatory and will be comprehensive and make up 35% of the total grade so it is very important. A score of 70% or better on the Final exam is mandatory in order to pass the class.
You can earn a bonus 5 points added to the final test grade by turning in a 500 word essay about Alternative fuels, must have cited page.
Notebook: 5% of the Total grade given will be for a well-kept, organized and complete notebook.
