Failure to follow Fashion Lab rules may result in deductions of classroom participation grade and removal from lab for the class period. Please note no food or open drinks will be allowed in class.

Classroom Lab Area

Please keep your area clean.

Tools should be placed to the side or under the table when not in use.

If you need to borrow school supplies, please check with the instructor or lab assistant for check-out procedure.  No school supplies may be taken out of the Fashion Lab.

Please Note- At this time-no tools may be borrowed from the Fashion Cabinet.  You must provide your own equipment every day you attend class.

You may be assigned a dress form to use for the semester.  This dress form is shared with other classes.  All work must be removed from forms at the end of class. Dress forms will be returned to the storage area when not in use.

NEVER PUT PINS OR NEEDLES IN YOUR MOUTH

Focus on what you are constructing.  Sewing through your fingers is a real thing! And it hurts.  Stay focused on your projects.

If you stop your machine for any reason, ALWAYS remove your foot from the pedal.

Turn off the machine for any maintenance issues.  Thread Change.  Needle Change.  Done for the day.  Turn off your machine.

Practice keeping fingers as far from the needle as possible.  If you need to do close work, slow down your speed. Fabric should be kept to the side of the pressure foot or in front of the machine.

Scissors should ALWAYS be closed when not in use and ALWAYS placed to the right side of the machine when sewing.

Never sew over pins.  You will break needles if you do.  Slow down your speed and carefully remove pins.

Brother Lab irons - must be unplugged at the end of each class.  Always keep irons in upright position when not in use.

Brother Sewing Machine Lab Area

You are responsible for your machines and the lab space.  Make sure your area and the lab is clean after every use.

You will be assigned to a Brother machine at the beginning of the semester.  This machine is your responsibility.

If you are having difficulty or if something is wrong with the machine, report it to the instructor immediately so that you will not be held responsible.

Do not leave thread or bobbins in the machine.  You are responsible for your equipment and supplies.

After successfully passing the  industrial machine assessment, you will be assigned a Juki machine.  The rules for the Brother lab apply to the Juki Lab.

You will be able to select which lab area you would like to use for each project.

Juki Sewing Machine Lab Area

You may only use the Juki Lab area if you have taken FSHD 1324 and passed the sewing assessment.

You are responsible for your machines and the lab space.  Make sure your area and the lab is clean after every use. After successfully passing the industrial sewing assessment, you will be assigned to a Juki machine.

This machine is your responsibility.  If you are having difficulty or if something is wrong with the machine, report it to the instructor immediately so that you will not be held responsible.

Do not leave thread or bobbins in the machine.  You are responsible for your equipment.

Bobbin cases can be checked out from the instructor.  You are responsible for the bobbin case.  You will sign out for the bobbin case and it will be signed back in when you are done for the day.

The goal of the Fashion Design program at ACC is to help you confidently develop the skills needed to become successful designers, and have a clear understanding and respect for the equipment you are trained on.  If you need additional time on the machines to master these skills, be sure and use the open lab times that are posted to complete your assignments. Remember, I am here to help you.
