Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives
This course introduces the student to the broad and diverse field of psychology – the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. It is a survey of introductory topics such as learning, memory, sensation and perception, personality, life-span development, physiological basis of behavior, stress and health, psychological disorders, social psychology, and research methods. Additional topics such as language development, states of consciousness, and psychotherapy may also be included as determined by the instructor.
The Department of Psychology at ACC requires that all PSYC 2301 classes cover the following Core Topics:
· Research Methods
· Personality
· Learning
· Life-Span Development
· Physiological Basis of Behavior
· Cognition (including Sensation, Perception, & Memory)
· Stress (as well as intellectual, social, physical, and emotional health)
· Psychological Disorders
· Social Psychology
The primary course objectives are for the student, upon completion of the course, to (1) accurately describe the nature and content of psychology; (2) explain representative theories, concepts, and major research findings within the field; and (3) apply psychological principles to real-world events and everyday life.
